At 4:10 PM on the fourth day of the 2024 White Marlin Open, the Billfisher, out of Ocean City, MD pulled up to the Harbour Island scales with a 76-pound white marlin. That fish moved into 2nd place in the white marlin category and is now worth $1,787,645 for angler Noah McVicker also from Ocean City. This local boat is a fish and money magnet. They happened to win a then-world record $4,106,160 for a 77.5-pound white marlin landed in the 2022 event. While the Billfisher’s catch cut into the Waste Knot’s Tuesday winnings, the Raleigh, NC boat still holds $3.7 million for the 77.5-pound white caught by angler Ven Poole from the same NC hometown.
At 9:30 PM, the Moore Bills out of Ocean City, MD, showed up to an excited crowd with a 894-pound blue marlin that jumped into 2nd place in weight and took $411,427 from the blue marlin pool, cutting into the winnings of the two huge blue marlin weighed on Tuesday. The Stone Cutter from St. Augustine, FL, still holds the lead with an extraordinary 897.5-pound blue marlin caught by Lance Blakemore from Horseheads, NY. Blakemore’s fish is now worth $518,650. That blue dropped the Bobojo, hailing from Manteo, NC into 3rd place. Angler Hershel Martin from Montross, VA, who brought in a 789.5-pound blue marlin on Tuesday is now winning $110,981 in prize money.
The top bigeye tuna caught on Monday still holds. Leading the charge is Blue Runner out of Pt. Pleasant, NJ, with Rob Jones from Cincinnati, OH, landing a massive 220.5-pound bigeye tuna. This catch is valued at $1,018,438 showcasing the substantial rewards available in this category. In second place is Warden Pass out of Cape May, NJ. Angler Jeff Green from Wildwood, NJ, landed a 193.5-pound bigeye which was worth $194,308 at the start of the day. That tuna was tied on Thursday when the MJs out of Cape May, NJ brought in an identical 193.5-pound bigeye caught by Dante Soriente from Little Egg Harbor, NJ. Soriente’s bigeye is now worth $150,476 knocking down the Warden Pass’s payday to a still impressive $161,350.00
In the dolphin division, the 32.5-pounder caught off the Catch 23, out of Jupiter, FL is holding $124,370 for angler Patrick Field of Stewart, FL. That dolphin is followed by the 31-pounder taken off the Double Nickel out of Solomons, MD making Andy Geldmacher from Westminster, MD $3,000.00 richer.
