The 51st Annual White Marlin Open begins Monday in Ocean City, Maryland, with 318 registered boats set to compete for an impressive $8.5 million prize pool. This prestigious event, long known as “ the world’s largest and richest billfish tournament” continues to draw anglers from across the globe, each hoping to land the catch of a lifetime. However, this year’s tournament faces unique challenges as Tropical Storm Debby has developed off the Florida coast, threatening to impact fishing conditions later in the week.
Despite the looming weather concerns, the tournament kicks off with a sense of excitement and anticipation. When the boats set sail tomorrow, the anglers will be navigating the canyon areas from 50 to 80 miles offshore in search of prize-winning marlin, tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and swordfish. Among the registered boats are several returning champions, including Billfisher, Sushi, and Floor Reel.
